who knows what tomorrow may bring maybe the sunshine maybe the rain
By now you've probably heard of the odious and completely discredited flypaper "theory" - essentially, the NIMBY model of foreign policy (or, this is acceptable to cable news anchors, while this is not).
Reading and re-reading some reactions to flypaper spin, it occurred to me - how much fighting in the streets did you or anyone else see in the streets of London last week? Come to think of it, how much street fighting did you see on September 11?
Basically, claiming that there's going to be any "street fighting" at all with Al Qaeda or an affiliated group just feeds a kind of bizzaro-world siege fantasy, a Red Dawn Redux. More than anything, sadly enough, it illustrates America's costly inability to first confront the consequences of it's imperialism, and second the underlying causes and the resulting problems presented by international terrorism: in this case, as in most cases, they want the us to up and went out of the Mid East, they don't want our Wal-Marts.
