blue milk
This is an absolutely remarkable story that should be getting major play and follow up by anyone and everyone with a press pass (long time readers will know that I've written on Bush Administration plans to dope a generation of school children; short timers can find them here and here).
Bottom line - these girls (and some guys), no matter how earnest they may be or ready to train themselves, are being hired because they're attractive, not because they're med students or pharmacy students or they have a grasp of the pharmaceutical industry or basic medicine or they have a yen to help people: these are men and mostly women who are responsibile for shilling potentially life-altering - and I mean in a bad way - products to your family doctor. And all because they're fuckable.
And yes, it is entirely feasible to argue that this is simply the way the market works - finding another sales angle and milking it - but this is not putting a Girls of Mr. Goodwrench calendar in your mechanic's hands, this is selling stuff that may have profound effects on the population, children included. I know that people gave Tom Cruise major grief for that Nazis=psychiatry gibberish he spilt on teevee a while back, but the fact remains that there's serious money - like defense contract kind of money, like ADM-Supermarket-To-The-World kind of money - to be made selling people diseases and then selling them pills to cure said diseases, even stuff we like to think as ready-made little helpers for things like depression and anxiety (why do you think First World goverments and corporations keep fronting over generic HIV drugs and malaria and the sorts of diseases that segregate North from South? There's no fucking money in them).
And ethics be dammed - if it takes getting your doctor all hot and bothered to get him to purchase a crate of anti-depressants - anti-depressants he may then unload on your or your family member's otherwise clueless grey matter - then that's what it takes. There's gold in them there nervous systems.
Witness what happened to one Allen Jones, and I think you get the picture what's at stake here.
