it's a shame about ray
During an interview/lecture/dialogue between Seymour Hersh and Scott Ritter broadcast on BookTV this weekend, Ritter said that the peace movement in the U.S. has largely been ineffective because it does not know how to apply political pressure; Scott argued that an effective peace movement would simply vote out congresspeople and senators who voted for the War in Iraq.
Based on statements like this -
"I plan on voting for Hillary Clinton next year," says Kenneth Barr of Inwood, one of the 70 protesters outside the senator's office last week. As much as he disagrees with her on Iraq, he explains, "I still can't be a one-issue person."
- I think Scott may have a point. Indeed - stupidity aside - look at what happened to Harriet Miers. I don't think the progressive or pro-choice movement can take credit for that, can they?
If this is any indication -
In 2005 it is impossible to link the Democrats with a single courageous stand or even constructive idea. This week the party's top strategists -- mesmerized by the twenty-first century's answer to the Framers, Dr George Lakoff's childish nostrums -- were wrangling over two possible slogans, "Together, we can do better," or "Together, America can do better."
- is it time we gave zealotry a chance?
