MICHAEL D. BROWN, FORMER FEMA DIRECTOR,
ADDRESSES NATIONAL WEATHER CONFERENCE AT MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN
Hurricanes, Global Warming, Industry Experts at 13th Operation Sierra Storm, January 17-20
(Mammoth Lakes, Calif.) - Michael D. Brown, former Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), will be the keynote speaker at Operation Sierra Storm, a meteorology conference at Mammoth Mountain, Wednesday, January 18, 2006.
Brown currently serves as a consultant on emergency preparedness and strategic business issues. During the conference he will address various topics with television meteorologists from throughout the country, including Hurricane Katrina, disaster preparedness, and responsibilities of the media as well as government on local, state and national levels.
"I want to help people and businesses focus on preparedness, how to be better prepared in their homes and in their businesses. Through my experience successfully managing more than 150 disasters, and the problems we experienced in Hurricane Katrina, I hope to help my fellow citizens and their businesses in a meaningful and practical way based on the successes and problems I experienced in natural and man-made disasters,” Brown told Operation Sierra Storm organizers.
"Hurricane Katrina showed how bad disasters can be, and there's an incredible need for individuals and businesses to understand how important preparedness is," Brown stated. Through his consulting business he is advising businesses and individuals on strategic planning issues for future disasters, utilizing lessons learned from his 4½ years as FEMA’s general counsel, Deputy Director and Director.
